I try to eat as clean as possible due to my Celiac diagnosis. But over the last several years another motivator has been that, good health begins with your gut. And not just physical health, emotional health begins there as well. I know I’m a nerd but I love learning how our body receives/ reacts to what we put in our stomachs and absorbed through our bloodstream by products used topically.

Even when we eat clean, drink all the water, and exercise properly our bodies aren’t robots and have depletions from vitamins, minerals, etc. Due to over production and supply of foods we struggle to get everything we need or depend on our bodies to absorb everything. That’s when we use the phrase, I get by with a little help from my friends. I supplement with all natural vitamins from YoungLiving and can share those with you personally but I also drink my plant based protein D A I L Y that includes superfoods, adaptogens, probiotics, prebiotics. All the things you need so your body can digest that food you take in, use it as fuel, and help detox what can be harmful.

One of the ingredients in my plant based protein I’ve loved learning about is Camu Camu. It is a native of the Amazon rainforest. This is a a superfood and packed with Vitamin C, protecting your body from free radicals. Camu Camu is also a Vitamin C driver which is a key component for building collagen in prevention of bone loss and joint pain while supporting connective tissue, cells, and nails.

While free radicals are a normal outcome of cellular function, when your body has too many free radicals and not enough antioxidants (caused by things like stress & poor diet), your body can be found in a state of oxidative stress that has been linked to diabetes, cancer, and heart disease. Camu Camu is found to support and boost your immune system, increase brain activity and energy; promote healthy gums, eyes, and skin; and it helpful as an anti-inflammatory.

Yes, all of that in that one little ingredient.

With that being said, I get some strong chocolate cravings and when I want to stay on track, this is one of my favorite “dessert” go tos with my plant based superfood powder. Here’s my favorite smoothie bowl recipe that incorporates all this while feeling like a rich dessert. Hope you enjoy!
